As my friend Chin says, “in any form, tea help lose weight.” Though there is a debate on whether tea helps in managing a person’s weight, as long as you are living evidence that it is true, then you don’t need to join the riot.
The decision to lose weight is a personal and easy decision to make. The way to lose it is usually the hard question to answer. Most people who are having weight issues simply choose to lose those few extra pounds naturally – and the solution they see fit would be drinking and consuming a considerable amount of tea. Plus, they would be getting other health benefits as well: high levels of antioxidants help prevent certain cancers, a booster for the immune system, keep dental plaque at bay by preventing cavities, and lowers cholesterol levels which is basically good for the heart.
Only logical really. All teas come from one plant source – the Camellia Sinensis, an evergreen tea bush usually found in mainland South and Southeast Asia, but can now be found in tropical and subtropical regions as well.
There are generally 4 types of tea:
- White tea. The leaves of this particular tea are harvested in the early hours of the morning. This is said to be the most tea with the most health benefits because it is the “youngest” and the most delicate of all teas. When brewed, this tea is very light in color, and will have a sweeter taste than the other types.
- Green tea. Green tea leaves has undergone minimal oxidation and are quickly dried and dehydrated (pan or oven-fried) for storage. This is said to lower the risk of contracting heart disease, green tea leaves contain caffeine and is a good substitute to coffee. (Sometimes, taking both coffee and green tea may lead to an excess of caffeine, so great care must be made if you can’t let go of one of them.)
- Black tea. The leaves are allowed to oxidize, thus giving out a richer flavor than its tea-sisters. It is said to be one of the most consumed beverage in the planet, coming in a close second only to water. This type of tea is commonly used to make iced tea. Also, it has the same benefits as green tea, but this one is just least expensive than the green one.
- Oolong tea. If black tea is inexpensive, then it is quite the opposite for oolong tea. The leaves are processed directly after picking – the leaves are wilted in the sun for a short time and placed in baskets and shaken, bruising the leaves, after which these are spread out to dry. This is also said to be the best tea to be able to slim you down if taken religiously.
This type of tea leaves only vary in their weight-losing properties and in their taste. After that, all the benefits just point to one eventual conclusion: a healthier you.
